LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) - Lafayette Parish public school teachers may receive an extra paycheck of $1,443 next month.
The Advocate reports the school board will consider the one-time payout from the 2002 half-cent sales tax fund at its meeting Wednesday.
The sales tax fund covers teacher raises, professional development and lower class size expenses. At the close of the fiscal year in June, the fund had an excess of more than $4.3 million. Board policy enables the funds to be distributed to eligible employees, according to information provided with the board agenda.
Last year, the board approved a supplemental check of $380.95 - about $200 less than the district's Blue Ribbon Committee recommended, because of the board's concerns about drawing down the reserves.
