NEW ORLEANS (AP) - The ex-wife of former Jefferson Parish President Aaron Broussard is due in federal court Tuesday morning to be arraigned on a reduced charge in the payroll fraud case against her, Broussard and a former parish attorney.
Federal prosecutors filed the new charge on Thursday against Karen Parker, 46, in a bill of information, which typically signals a plea deal has been reached.
The bill of information charges Parker with misprision of a felony, or concealing a crime.
In December, an indictment charged Parker, Broussard and former Jefferson Parish Attorney Tom Wilkinson with more serious charges of conspiracy, wire fraud and theft.
On Tuesday, Parker will face a "rearraignment hearing" on the new charge.
Parker's attorney and U.S. Attorney Jim Letten's spokeswoman wouldn't comment on whether Parker has a plea deal.
