Ex-state Worker Pleads Guilty

LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) - A former state social service worker has
pleaded guilty in connection with a federal food stamp fraud
investigation that has resulted in charges against 13 people.
Andrea Broussard admitted Wednesday in Lafayette to fraudulently
obtaining $345 in federal disaster assistance in 2005 after
hurricanes Katrina and Rita. She once worked for the state
Department of Social Services.
Broussard faces up to 20 years in prison for wire fraud.
Prosecutors said a group of state employees allegedly obtained
some of the food stamp benefits using the names of dead relatives.
The social services department says all of the accused employees
have either retired or been fired.
