LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) - Former Iberia Parish Sheriff Sidney J. Hebert has received three years of supervised probation, 120 hours of community service and an $1,800 fine for the negligent operation of a water-treatment facility in the Port of Iberia.
Also on Thursday, U.S. Magistrate Judge C. Michael Hill ordered Hebert's company, Environmental Compliance Solutions, to pay a $50,000 fine, an amount both the government and defense had
previously agreed upon.
Hill delayed executing that judgment to
allow the government time to determine how to disperse the funds.
The company was charged under the Clean Water Act with illegally discharging untreated waste into the Commercial Canal in the Port
of Iberia in June 2009.
