Ex-Cop Pleads 'no contest' in Brutality Case

OPELOUSAS, La. (AP) - Rather than face trial for malfeasance in office, a former Eunice Police officer has entered a plea of no contest.
Twenty-eight-year-old Micah C.Z. Arceneaux had been scheduled to go on trial later this week on charges of malfeasance and aggravated battery. His no contest plea, while not an admission of guilty, is legally considered the same as pleading guilty.
District Judge James A. Doherty sentenced Arceneaux earlier this week to two years on each of two malfeasance counts but agreed to suspend the sentences in favor of active, supervised probation. All other charges against him were dismissed.
Two others accused in the cases, 31-year-old Jeremy K. Ivory and 24-year-old William D. McCauley Jr., await trial.
