NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Two former New Orleans police officers charged in a deadly shooting in Hurricane Katrina's aftermath plans to ask for their retrials to be moved away from New Orleans.
Retrials for Travis McCabe and David Warren are scheduled to start March 11 and March 18, respectively. In court filings Wednesday, their defense attorneys asked a federal judge to postpone both retrials. The defense lawyers say they need more time to prepare, including working on motions for a change of venue.
Attorneys for McCabe, who is charged with writing a false report on Henry Glover's fatal shooting, say negative publicity from the first trial and other police-related prosecutions must be considered.
Warren faces a separate retrial for fatally shooting Glover before another officer burned the 31-year-old man's body in a car.
