Former Iberia Parish Sheriff Sid Hebert
is facing a misdemeanor federal charge in connection with a waste
processing company he managed at the Port of Iberia.
Hebert and the company, Environmental Compliance Solutions, each
face charges under the federal Clean Water Act
The Advocate reports a bill of information filed Friday accuses
Hebert of not maintaining the required paperwork for the facility's
permit, and the company faces a charge in connection with the
release of untreated waste.
Hebert's attorney, Frank Dawkins, said Monday that the former
sheriff and the company have negotiated a plea agreement that calls
for a $50,000 fine.
Environmental Compliance Solutions held a permit to treat waste
that included water used to flush out oil tanks, to wash off
oilfield equipment and to clean industrial equipment.
