Ex-French Market director charged with theft

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - The former executive director of New Orleans' French Market Corp., who resigned amid scandal last summer, has been charged with one count of felony theft.
Orleans Parish prosecutors Wednesday said Kenneth Ferdinand had been charged in a bill of information. WWL-TV says Ferdinand quietly resigned last summer amid questions about credit card purchases and other expenses and agreed to repay the agency $5,000.
District Attorney Leon Cannizzaro says an investigation by his office and that of Inspector General Ed Quatrevaux showed that Ferdinand made personal charges on the agency's credit card totaling more than $11,000.
Prosecutors say an arrest warrant has been issued for Ferdinand, who remained at large. An arraignment is set for Friday.
