NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A woman who worked as an office manager for a Covington medical practice has been charged with fraudulently paying herself more than $600,000 in authorized salary out of her employer's payroll account.
A court filing last week charges 40-year-old Jacqueline Evans Segura with one count of health care fraud.
Segura worked for a plastic surgeon and his wife, a general surgeon. Federal prosecutors say Segura routinely kept patients' cash payments instead of depositing them into the clinic's account. She also allegedly used the doctors' personal credit card to make unauthorized online purchases for herself.
Segura faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison if she's convicted of the charge.
