Events in December at Vermilionville

LAFAYETTE, LA - Vermilionville Living History Museum & Park hosts many special events each month including its weekly Cajun Jam on Saturdays, Bal du Dimanche (Sunday Dance) as well as year round exhibits. The village is open Tuesday - Sunday from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. and admission is $10 for adults, $6 for students, $8 for senior citizens 65+ and children under 6 get in free. See below for a list of upcoming events.

Saturday, December 8 | Canoe Paddle | 8:30 - 11:30 a.m.
The community is invited to take a canoe trip on the Bayou Vermilion. $5 insurance fee to American Canoe Association for a canoe or bring your own canoe or kayak and paddle for free. Canoe trips are held every second and last Saturday of the month weather and river conditions permitting. Please RSVP in advance by emailing Margot Addison or calling (337) 233-4077 x 205.

Saturday, December 8 | Cajun Jam | 1 - 3:30 p.m.
Join Vermilionville for their weekly Cajun Jam led by some of the area's finest musicians. The free jam is held in the Performance Center of Vermilionville and is open to all skill levels-beginner to professional. Free admission is for jam only and does not include entry to the park. Tuesday, December 11 | CCET's Backyard Series | 6:30 - 8:30 p.m.
December's Topic is Evolution of Cajun & Creole Cooking with Chef Pat Mould and Barry Ancelet. The series is sponsored in part by Decentralized Arts Funding distributed by the Acadiana Center for the Arts and the Louisiana Division of the Arts in partnership with the Vermilionville Foundation. Free and open to all ages.

Tuesday, Dec 11 - Thursday, Dec 20 | Vermilionville's Old Time Christmas | 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Experience the simple warmth and beauty of Christmas past as our historic village brings to life the holiday traditions of yesteryear. Visitors will learn about the traditions and activities associated with the Christmas and New Year's holiday for French Louisiana in the 17 and 1800s. They will meet Papa Noël, learn how to make wax candles, santons or little saints, citrus pomanders and soap, sing along to Christmas carols, watch popcorn stringing and even get a taste of apple cider while listening to a reading of "A Cajun Night before Christmas." Group Rates Available. Regular Admission. Memberships Honored.

Saturday, December 15 | Christmas Celebration | 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Get into the holiday spirit early with a Christmas celebration for the whole family at our historic village. There will be plenty to keep the kids busy including a hands on family cooking class, decorating workshop where kids use natural and traditional items to make decorations, Christmas caroling in the village and a cookie decorating contest. Attendees will also have the opportunity to experience what Christmas & New Years was like in the 1700s and 1800s with our Old Time Christmas. Admission is $6 for adults, $4 for students (3-18) and 3 & under enter free.

Dance in the New Year with Geno Delafose & French Rockin' Boogie! Tickets for the show are $35 and go on sale October 2 in Vermilionville's Gift Shop by calling (337) 233-4077. Doors open at 8:30 p.m. and the music goes from 9:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. No outside food and beverages are allowed.
