VILLE PLATTE, La. (AP) - The Evangeline Parish Police Jury has
agreed to enforce its nuisance ordinance to clean up an abandoned
home near Crooked Creek Recreational Park.
Secretary-Treasurer Doug DeVille said the property is full of
refuse, the house is in dilapidated condition and it is a home for
rodents and snakes.
The police jury ordered DeVille to write a
letter to the property owners giving them 30 days to begin the
cleanup. If no cleanup effort has begun after 30 days' notice, the
police jury can have the property cleaned and bill the property
owners. If payment for the cleanup is not received, the police jury
could issue a tax lien against the property.
