The Evangeline Parish Sheriff's Office organized an elite group of deputies this week to begin executing outstanding warrants.
Wednesday and Thursday afternoon, members of the criminal investigation and patrol divisions hit the streets of the parish to execute warrants ranging from sex offenders to traffic violations, etc.
Deputies knocked on doors and traveled from St. Landry to Lake Cove and then to Basile, Mamou and Ville Platte to execute warrants. The warrants stemmed from probation and parole because residents were not meeting their responsibilities set by the courts.
Sheriff Eddie Soileau said his office will continue to execute warrants, and his department will continue to seek out violators who try to circumvent the Judicial System. The sex offenders who were arrested have failed to meet reporting obligations which the courts have ordered them to perform. My office will not allow them to disregard the judicial system. All the others arrested in this operation have failed to me other obligations of the court and this will not be tolerated. These types of roundups will be conducted from time to time in the future. These persons have committed crimes and are obligated to pay their debt to society.
The sheriff also cautioned everyone who has an obligation to the court system to meet those obligations otherwise they may find themselves being arrested for failure to do so.
At this time, the following warrants have been executed:
•Johnny Leday, 47 (dob 1/27/64), 708 Young St., Ville Platte, was charged with failure to provide community notifications and failure to put notice in local paper.
