Evacuation Called Near Pearl River Diversion

SLIDELL, La. (AP) - A mandatory evacuation has been called in St. Tammany Parish for the area south of locks 1 and 2 of the Pearl River diversion canal. According to the state's Joint Information Command, parish officials believe a failure of Lock 2 is imminent. The evacuation area covers an area from locks 1 and 2 south to Louisiana Highway 36 between Bush and Hickory.
It is unclear how many people are affected by the order. The Joint Information Command said affected residents were being referred to a Red Cross shelter.
