A 30-year-old Eunice woman has been arrested after her dog attacked a mailman and a police officer.
According to authorities, Nicole Courville was arrested on Wednesday for outstanding warrants related to the attack.
Police say on Saturday two pit bulls ripped the mailman's bag away when he first encountered them. Officials say the mailman tripped as he tried to back away from the dogs and was bit in his arm and leg after falling.
Police say when they arrived, the pit bulls became aggressive towards them and bit an officer. Officers fired several shots, striking one of the dogs and scaring the other away. They add the wounded dog tried to attack them again, prompting an officer to fire the fatal shot.
Nicole Courville is charged with cruelty to animals, negligent injury and dogs running loose (Eunice City Ordinance).
Courville appeared before 27th Judicial District Judge Alonzo Harris Thursday morning and bond was set at $4,500. She is still in the Eunice City Jail at this time.
