Eunice police arrested a man accused of killing a horse on Christmas Eve. Delma Deon Richard, 41, is facing multiple charges including cruelty to animals. He was arrested on Jan. 27 and is accused of stabbing the horse in the neck after it slipped and fell on railroad tracks on North MLK Dr. According to a Eunice Police Department affidavit, the horse slipped because it wasn't properly fitted with horseshoes. The affidavit goes on to say after the horse fell to the ground, a witness said it started bucking and Richard jumped from the horse, ripped a handful of hair from the horse then stabbed it multiple times in the neck.

Richard told police a train hit and killed the horse, Eunice Deputy Chief Varden Guillory Sr. said. Richard was arrested on Jan. 27 for several traffic related violations and for outstanding warrants from the alleged stabbing. Besides Cruelty to Animals, he's charged with Trespassing, Driving under suspension, Expired MVI, Obstruction of public passages, No insurance and Open container.
