A speeding violation leads to multiple charges on a Eunice resident.
A Eunice Police officer clocked a pick up at 62 mph in a 35 mph zone. The officer then attempted to pull over the alleged violator as he drove left to right across all lanes on Hwy 190, according to authorities. The driver then allegedly accelerated to 80 mph and shut off his lights while fleeing from the police unit while still in the city limits. The pursuit then left the city and ended at the home of the suspect.
According to authorities, the suspect, Matthew Martel, 22, was was taken into custody as he exited the truck. Officers then recovered marijuana, a 22 caliber rifle, and a 30-06 rifle from the seat of the truck, both rifles were fully loaded.
Police say, Martel refused to provide a breath sample on the intoxilyzer and was secured to an intake bench with handcuffs. Police say, Martel allegedly became irate and ripped the bolted bench from the wall.
Matthew Martel, 22, of Eunice, was charged with Speeding, Improper Lane Usage, Reckless Operation Driving without Headlights, Criminal Damage to Property, Aggravated Flight from an Officer Resisting an Officer with Force or Violence DWI 2nd Offense, Possession of Marijuana and Possession of a Firearm in the Presence of CDS.
Martel is being held on a formal application.
