OPELOUSAS, La. (AP) - The state Ethics Board has accused former St. Landry Parish President Don Menard and Opelousas Mayor Don Cravins Sr. of ethics violations in connection with contributions to their campaigns for state offices in 2011.

The board says Cravins received a campaign contribution from a political action committee in excess of a legal limit of $2,500; and that he contributed $2,500 to his son, violating a law forbidding candidates from making payments or expenditures to an immediate family member. Cravins said he believes the board is in error in both instances.

Meanwhile, the Ethics Board says Menard failed to timely disclose contributions to his campaign for a House seat in 2011. Menard told The Advertiser of Lafayette that any violations were unintentional and that all contributions have been reported.
