CLINTON, La. (AP) A state judge has sentenced an Ethel man to 25 years in prison for the February 2009 shooting death of a Greenwell Springs man.
District Attorney Sam D'Aquilla tells The Advocate that District Judge George H. Ware Jr. handed down the sentence Tuesday to 25-year-old Blake T. Thompson.
Thompson pleaded guilty in January to manslaughter in the slaying of 22-year-old Brandon Dixon.
Thompson's mother testified in a sentencing hearing earlier this year that Dixon was beating, choking and kicking her daughter immediately before her son shot Dixon.
Sheriff's deputies who investigated the shooting said, however, they found no evidence of a struggle or fight in the area of Thompson's mobile home where the shooting occurred.
