Tropical Storm Ernesto is moving into an area more favorable for development this morning and may become a hurricane before making landfall late tonight or early Wednesday. As of 7am Ernesto was packing winds of 65mph and moving toward the WNW.

The area of the Caribbean between the northern coast of Honduras and the Yucatan has less dry air, and less wind shear. That combined with very warm waters should help to intensify Ernesto to hurricane strength before moving inland. The target forecast is for the storm to move onshore either in Belize or Mexico on the eastern coast of the Yucatan.

Some weakening is forecast as it travels across the peninsula, before re-emerging over the Bay of Campeche on Thursday.
