An Erath resident, who was put on life support following a blaze in his Bourque St. home last Friday, has now died, Erath Police Chief Gerald Hebert confirms.
The chief said that Donald Romero, who was an organ donor, "was taken off of life support last night and released to the family today." Romero's family expressed hope that, in removing Romero last night from life support, something good would come out of his organ donation.
Early indications are that the cause of the Jan. 31 fire was electrical, although confirmation is now awaited from the State Fire Marshal. That evening, Bourque was discovered on the floor of his home and immediately was rushed to a local hospital, where he had been on life support until last night.
No funeral arrangements have been announced as of Tuesday morning.
