Entergy: Safety culture growing at Palisades plant

SOUTH HAVEN, Mich. (AP) - Operators of the Palisades nuclear plant in southwestern Michigan say they're making progress in the face of a series of safety issues and a poor report card from federal regulators.

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission held another in a series of public meetings in South Haven on Wednesday evening to air information and comments on the Palisades plant, located nearby in Van Buren County's Covert Township on the Lake Michigan shoreline.

New Orleans-based Entergy Corp. owns the 41-year-old plant.

MLive.com reports that Entergy officials say there's been a shift in the safety culture at the plant. They say employees have doubled the number of reports about problems at the plant in six months.

The NRC classifies Palisades as one of the four-worst performers of the 104 nuclear plants it regulates.
