NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Power provider Entergy Corp. is providing $1 million across its four-state service region to help elderly and disabled customers pay their summer electricity bills.
Entergy said Tuesday that $500,000 will come from its shareholders. At the same time, shareholders will give $2 for every $1 in new customer donations to an assistance fund - or up to $500,000.
The bill-paying help is distributed by community organizations.
Entergy said the additional donations will provide emergency utility assistance for thousands more elderly and disabled customers beyond those already covered by assistance programs in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas.
