LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) - Calcasieu Parish has about $20.7 million set aside in this year's budget for road improvement projects - a near $10 million drop from last year - which one parish official attributes to the good condition of the roadways and the lack of a multi-million dollar project.
About $29 million was set aside in last year's budget for road improvements.
Tim Conner, the parish's engineer, says fewer roads will be repaired this year because they are in "pretty good" shape.
Conner says this year's road projects total just over 50 miles, with about $14.7 million in overall construction costs. He says the rest comes from right of way acquisition, utility relocations and engineering costs.
