BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - A proposed ban on the sale of energy
drinks in Louisiana to anyone under the age of 16 is likely dead
for the session, after it was rejected by a Senate committee.
Republican Sen. Robert Adley, of Benton, says he offered the
bill on behalf of a constituent who raised health concerns about
the drinks and who calls the jolts of caffeine popular with
teenagers and college students "speed in a can."
The Senate Commerce Committee shelved the bill without objection
Wednesday, after opponents said the proposal went too far and
