Elton man arrested for allegedly shooting at vehicle

Jefferson Davis Parish Sheriff's deputies arrested an Elton man Thursday for allegedly shooting a gun at a vehicle after an altercation.

According to the sheriff's office, deputies received a walk-in complaint that John Henry Sandlin, 67, had shot at occupants in a vehicle on Thursday at his residence on Tupper Road in Elton.

Deputies obtained statements from the occupants, who told deputies that Sandlin struck one of the victims before going inside his residence and returning with a firearm.

Sandlin reportedly fired the weapon into the air and then pointed it at the occupants of the vehicle and fired the weapon again.

Deputies say Sandlin, of 5496 Tupper Road in Elton, was questioned by investigators and admitted to firing a weapon.

Sandlin was booked into the Jefferson Davis Parish Jail on charges of simple battery, illegal use of a weapon and four counts of aggravated assault with a firearm.

No bond was set as of Thursday afternoon.
