Elena Pecoraro to chair International Center Foundation

The International Center Foundation Board, formerly the International Trade Development Group (ITDG), proudly announces the election of Mrs. Elena Pecoraro as its new chairperson. Mrs. Pecoraro succeeded Dr. Paula Carson, Assistant Vice President for Institutional Planning and Effectiveness at University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Dr. Carson served as chair for the past three years. During her tenure, she revamped the board and its mission into a more pro-active organization. Mrs. Elena Pecoraro declared: "I proudly accept the challenge to reinforce Lafayette's global image and role, and I am delighted to continue Dr. Carson's recent achievements in making our International Center Foundation a true international organization. Together with my fellow board members, I invite other organizations, institutions and corporations to join us in this effort."

Mrs. Pecoraro practices law in Lafayette in the areas of civil and commercial litigation and contracts. She has extensive experience in the fields of corporate liability, professional liability, medical contracts, defense of the railroad industry, transportation defense, international customs compliance and international contracts, as well some employment law and worker's compensation.

She is a member of the American Bar Association Section of Torts and Contracts, the International Bar Association, the Louisiana Bar Association, the Bar Association of the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the Louisiana Association of Defense Counsel. She is admitted to practice in the U.S. Federal Courts in Louisiana as well as the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeal.

Born in Santiago, Chile, and reared in Italy and Panama, Mrs. Pecoraro has a unique perspective in understanding, fashioning and perfecting international contracts and assisting in business development. She is also fluent in Spanish and Italian.

She was admitted to the Louisiana State Bar in 2000. She received her undergraduate degree in 1997 and her Juris Doctorate in 2000 from Louisiana State University, Paul Hebert Law Center.

A board member of the Lafayette Parish Bar Association and an executive board member of the International Trade Development Group for Lafayette since 2007, Mrs. Pecoraro actively participates in international development for Lafayette, Louisiana, and the surrounding area.

Mrs. Pecoraro has also been active in the community by being a member of the Junior League of Lafayette and by being on the executive boards of Young Lawyers of Lafayette and Inns of Court.
The International Center Foundation (ICF) is the advisory board of Le Centre International de Lafayette, the International Trade division of Lafayette Consolidated Government.

Le Centre International's mission is to promote and enhance Lafayette's global reputation and vibrancy through: (a) creating international opportunities for the Lafayette City-Parish government, business community, and citizenry to strengthen our community's economic development potential by advancing our culture and heritage; (b) fostering international commerce in the Acadiana Region and its hub city of Lafayette. These objectives are accomplished by:

  •  Assisting Lafayette businesses with critical aspects of importing and exporting;
  •  Collaborating with regional economic development entities to facilitate international business recruitment and retention;
  •  Attracting and supporting international meetings and conventions to Acadiana;§ Facilitating sister-city relations for Lafayette and other Acadiana towns;
  •  Strengthening and promoting Acadiana‘s unique cultural assets and quality of life when do so will enhance Lafayette's global positioning in the world's commercial and tourism arenas.
