Opelousas Police Press Release
On the 22nd of December, 2009 the Opelousas Police Department was notified of a elderly male subject being treated at a local Hospital for what appeared to be several cuts to his body. Upon investigators arriving it was found that the male subject had sustained several lacerations from the top of his head to his lower legs. Upon investigators speaking with the victim he advised them that his wife of fifteen years had attacked him while they were at home. The 79 year old male stated that his 63 yr old wife hit him in the head with something and when he started bleeding, he went to the bathroom to try and stop the bleeding; she entered the bathroom area and cut him several times. He stated he fled from the residence to a family members home next door. According to the family member that answered the door, he opened the door to find his uncle covered in blood. He said that he went next door to find the mans wife standing in the kitchen area with blood on her clothing. Officers took Sarah Ann Cummings into custody and booked her in the Opelousas City Jail on charges of Aggravated Second Degree Battery. She was transferred to the St. Landry Parish Jail and is being held on a $40,000 bond. The victim was treated at a local Hospital and has since been released back home.
