Police said an 83 year old Lafayette business owner was allegedly killed by one of his own employees. Police are charging 36 year old Detrick Harris with second degree murder in connection with this case.
Neighbors said the victim, James Bunn has owned Lafayette Shoe Repair for quite a few years. He was out of town most of the day yesterday and stopped at the shop Wednesday night to check on things, but never walked out.
Bunn's girlfriend, Helen Perry said "I knew if he didn't call me he was dead."
Perry said she last heard from her boyfriend around five Wednesday evening. She then cooked dinner for him, but he never showed up.
"He never called me," Perry said. "So then it got seven and then eight, and I said I'll call Lafayette and tell them to go up there and that's where he was."
Perry called Lafayette Police to go check Bunn's business. It was there police found him stabbed to death. Perry said she knew Bunn and suspect Detrick Harris had been arguing over the weekend but no one ever thought it would lead to this.
Bunn's Neighbor, Geoffrey Cleveland, said "your neighbor ends up murdered because of something stupid it had to have been."
Regardless, his girlfriend said she'll remember the little things.
Perry said, "at night if he wakes up in the morning he says good morning darling and we hold hands all night."
Police said as of now there is no motive in this case. However, they do acknowledge there has been arguing between the two men, they just don't know what tipped Harris over the edge.
