Elderly Crossing Guard Killed by Motorist

This morning around 7:00 a.m. two Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office school crossing guards were struck by a car in front of Moss Bluff Elementary on Highway 378.

Roland Parker, 70, was pronounced dead from his injuries after being transported to a local hospital. Today was Parker's first day on the job with the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office.

Carl Edwards, 73, sustained a broken arm from the accident. He has been employed with the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office since April 2008.

The name of the driver has not yet been released.

Louisiana State Police Troop D is handling the accident.
