An 8 year old boy and a Lafayette Parish Deputy Sheriff both received minor injuries after being attacked and bitten by a pit bull.
On Tuesday December 20, 2011 at 4:30 PM a Lafayette Parish Deputy responded to Dula Street just outside Youngsville in reference to a reported dog biting a child. As the deputy arrived it was learned that an 8 year old local boy had been playing with 3 neighborhood pit bulls when police say one of the dogs became aggressive and bit the child on his shoulder area. Police say the child received minor injuries.
As the deputy attempted to locate the dogs, police say one of the dogs attacked the deputy from the rear, biting the deputy on his forearm. Police say the injury to the deputy is minor and he is being provided with preventative medical treatment.
Police say the deputy did fire his handgun in defense when the dog attacked, the deputy's bullet struck the dog in the leg. Police say the dog fled and has yet to be found by Animal Control Agents. Police say one of the other three dogs has been taken by Lafayette Animal Control Officers as is common in these types of reports. It is unclear if the same dog bit both the child and the deputy at this point.
