Former Governor Edwin Edwards is being released from prison, but before he is even released to a half-way house he already has an appearance scheduled. The gig-- Grand Marshal of the Rice Festival Parade in Crowley in October.
...
The office of the International Rice Festival is full of memorabilia, pictures and photographs of the former gov. He is fondly thought of in this town:
Glyn Mayard, Co-Chair of the festival told, "We offered it to him through his brother, some people don't remember but Edwin was the grand marshal in 1959, we think we owe it to him for all the things he did for the town of Crowley and the rice industry and Acadia Parish."
This will be the 75th year, the diamond jubilee and as of now Edwards has accepted the offer.
