Gubernatorial candidate and State Representative John Bel Edwards (D-Amite), Chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, responded today to news that Senator David Vitter will seek the office of Governor.
"I welcome Senator Vitter to the race and look forward to a spirited campaign. But, we will obviously have some fundamentally different priorities in this race," Edwards said.
"Based upon his two decades as a politician in both Baton Rouge and Washington, it is clear that Senator Vitter has excelled at two things, obstruction and division. That might work in a do nothing Congress, but it cannot take us where we need to go in Louisiana," added Edwards.
On how this might change the Edwards' campaign strategy, the West Point graduate noted, "Real leadership doesn't change course just because the wind changes directions. We will continue to meet with the people of this state and offer them genuine ideas to create better jobs, better opportunities for education, better prioritization of citizen interests in our state budget, and a better Louisiana."
