Education leaders kick off holiday book drive benefiting young readers

LAFAYETTE, La. - School district administrators from across Acadiana will join a local PreK class and Picard Center staff at Barnes & Noble for the 2012 Holiday Book Drive Kick-Off.

The Barnes & Noble Holiday Book Drive is an annual program that provides customers with the opportunity to purchase a book for donation and give it to a child in the community.

Picard Center Executive Director Dr. Billy R. Stokes and area school administrators will briefly discuss the book drive and its impact, and will then officially kick off the book drive by purchasing some of the first books for the more than 3,800 4-year-old students in seven Acadiana parishes. A local PreK class will also be in attendance and will be treated to cookies, hot chocolate, and a special Barnes & Noble gift.
