HOUMA, La. (AP) - Terrebonne Economic Development Authority officials are asking the parish council to approve a tax break for a planned Kohl's department store.
The Courier reports the authority wants Kohl's to benefit from breaks on sales and use taxes for the equipment it would use during construction. The tax breaks would be granted under the Louisiana Enterprise Zone Program.
Steve Vassallo, the chief executive of the development authority, says granting the tax breaks to Kohl's would demonstrate to other companies that the parish is willing to grant reasonable incentives to attract business.
