An Easter weekend boating trip ended in tragedy in St. Landry Parish.

Caleb Genin, 19, of Arnaudville was killed while boating on Bayou Courtableau. Late Saturday afternoon Genin hit his head as he went under a Highway 190 bridge near Port Barre.

There were 6 occupants in the boat, he was the only one injured. He was standing in the boat and hit his head on the bridge and fell down into the boat. No one ever fell into the water.

The boater was unresponsive when paramedics arrived. Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries is conducting the investigation. Their preliminary investigation shows that alcohol could be a factor.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Opelousas for LCPL Caleb G. Genin, age 19, who passed away Saturday evening, April 3, 2010 at Opelousas General Health System in Opelousas.

Melancon Funeral Home of Opelousas, 4708 I-49 North Service Road, (337) 407-1907, is in charge of arrangements.
