Early Learning Centers Accepting Applications

Lafayette - United Way of Acadiana's Early Head Start, Early Learning Centers in Vermilion and Lafayette parishes are accepting applications for openings this spring.

The centers are located at 1515 Jefferson Street in Lafayette for families in the 70501 zip code in Lafayette Parish and at 802 S. St. Valerie St. in Abbeville for families in Vermilion Parish. Both centers offer free on-site early childhood education programs for qualifying families with infants and toddlers up to three years of age, as well as prenatal services for expecting women.

Enrollment is taking place now, and space is limited!

Applications for enrollment will be taken at the following locations:

Birth Certificate for the Child
Social Security Card for the Child
Immunization Record for the Child
Medical Proof of Child's Disability (if applicable)

Eligibility Requirements:
Family MUST live in Vermilion Parish or the 70501 zip code only in Lafayette.
Children must be between the ages of 0-2.
Must meet Federal Poverty Income Guideline.
To be eligible for home-based services a child may be between birth and two years of age. The child must be living with a parent/guardian who is available to meet for one 90 minute home-visit each week and attend two socialization events monthly.

United Way of Acadiana received a grant from the federal Administration for Children & Families Office of Head Start to deliver these expanded services to Acadiana. These services will be free and include developmentally-appropriate educational activities; dental, health and mental health services; family visits; and socializations. The program also accepts children with disabilities and pregnant women and provides home-based services in addition to the center-based sites.
