THIBODAUX, La. (AP) - A Raceland woman being driven home after
she was charged with DWI, managed to have a theft charge tacked on
41-year-old Christy Shields
was stopped by deputies after allegedly driving her vehicle
erratically. The Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office says Shields
registered a .252 blood-alcohol reading on a Breathalyzer test -
more than three times the legal limit.
Sgt. Lesley Hill Peters says that after issuing Shields a
citation for DWI and improper lane usage, deputies drove her to her
home. As Shields got out of the police car, she allegedly took an
orange traffic cone used on a flashlight to direct traffic, a book
and rag, and tried to hand them to her husband.
Peters says the items were retrieved and Shields was issued a
second citation for theft.
