Louisiana State Police Troop D will conduct a DWI checkpoint Saturday, March 17. Troopers will stop vehicles from around 10:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. at an undisclosed location in Calcasieu Parish. "Our mission will be to find and remove impaired drivers from the road before they can cause injury or death to themselves or others." Sgt. James Anderson said. Also, troopers will be assigned to roving DWI patrols during the checkpoint.
Last year, Troop D investigated 18 fatal crashes resulting in 20 fatalities. Of those 20 fatalities, 10 (50%) were killed by impaired drivers who were either under the influence of alcohol or drugs or both.
"Drive sober or get pulled over," Anderson said. To report impaired drivers, drivers should call *LSP (*577) from their cellular phone or to contact their local law enforcement agency.
