Friends of Palmetto Island has partnered with D'Arbonne Cookers, Le Chien Cookers and Louisiana Dutch Oven Society to offer the first Dutch Oven Gathering (D.O.G.)at the park on Saturday, March 9, 2013. Friends group members will be cooking a few pigs, and serving a variety of fruit cobblers, vegetable dishes and casseroles. The event will be held in the cul-de-sac of campsites #64-67, on the North Road of the state park.
The day kicks off with a Dutch Oven Cooking 101 demonstration at 10:30 a.m., followed by a sampling of the food at noon. Attendees are invited to stick around to help organize a chapter. Dish preparation will begin at 8 a.m., so interested parties are encouraged to visit with the cookers and learn more about the art of Dutch Oven cooking. Due to the construction project in the campground, parking will be along the sides of the road leading to the campground.
The event is free and donations will be accepted. Non-alcoholic refreshments will be sold on site. Any attendees who would like to participate and cook for the event, contact the Friends of Palmetto at firstname.lastname@example.org or (337)652-2484.
The Louisiana Dutch Oven Society is formed of chapters, each associated with a State Park and hosts a D.O.G. on a designated Saturday of each month. Find out more about the Society and the currently organized chapters at www.ladutch.com. Friends of Palmetto Island State Park, Inc. is a local non-profit corporation formed to enhance, promote and create greater visibility of community support, in hope that such support, will protect and or mitigate against unnecessary budget reductions that may result in the closing of Palmetto Island State Park.
