Durel: Three Removed From Housing Authority

Press Release: City-Parish President Joey Durel today announced that he has exercised his authority and has removed three Commissioners from the Board of Commissioners of the Housing Authority of the City of Lafayette, Louisiana.

City-Parish President Durel stated, "Although the Housing Authority of Lafayette is not a unit of the Lafayette Consolidated Government, under applicable law, the chief executive officer of LCG has the responsibility to appoint the Commissioners. A recent audit of the Authority has raised serious issues as to apparent failures in terms of oversight of the activities of the Authority. Recognizing that the promotion of affordable housing is important to a vibrant community, I believe that the important work of the Authority will be facilitated by the appointment of individuals who can take the actions necessary to rectify any discrepancies or deficiencies in the processes of the Authority."
