Today, Calhoun businessman Zach Dasher announced he's running for Congress in Louisiana's Fifth Congressional District.
"It is time for ordinary citizens to get off of the sidelines and get involved in the political system," Dasher said. "For too long, we've set idly by while Washington politicians slowly gain control over every aspect of our lives. I am seeking to represent the people of the 5th District in Congress so that I can effectively fight the big government intellectual elitists in Washington," he said.
Dasher, a Republican, has a background in the pharmaceutical industry, according to a press release issued this morning.
Zach's mother is the sister of "Duck Commander" Phil Robertson.
Dasher says he is pro-life and a strong supporter of the Second Amendment. He wants the adoption of a Balanced Budget Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, an overhaul of the Department of Veterans Affairs, and a strong U.S. military.
The election is November 4th. Louisiana's Fifth District covers most of Northeast and Central Louisiana and stretches to Opelousas and Bogalusa in South Louisiana.
This announcement was made after current Congressman Vance McAllister's announced he was unsure if he was running this fall. McAllister's indecision comes after a video surfaced of him kissing a married aide.
