Prosecutors say a federal judge has sentenced one of the leaders of a methamphetamine and cocaine trafficking organization based in Abbeville to 10 years in federal prison.
U.S. Attorney Stephanie Finley says Judge Elizabeth Foote on Tuesday also ordered 36-year-old Francisco Delgado-Galviz, of Mexico City, to serve five years of supervised release once he's out of prison.
Finley tells The Advocate Delgado-Galviz and 11 others were indicted in 2009 on drug trafficking, firearms and illegal use of communication facilities charges. He pleaded guilty in November to one count of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine and cocaine, officials said.
Finley, who prosecuted the case, said the drug organization moved methamphetamine and cocaine from Mexico to distribute in the Acadiana region of Louisiana.
