NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Authorities say a massive narcotics
investigations has led to the arrest of dozens of people and put a
major dent in the cocaine trade.
Law enforcement said during a news conference at FBI
headquarters in New Orleans that as many as 60 people could face
charges and 38 were arrested during a sweep Friday.
Most of the arrests were made without incident. However, FBI
Agent Dave Welker said one man in Algiers fired six shots at
officers. None of the officers were injured.
Authorities said undercover officers bought 10 kilograms of
cocaine during the investigation.
Officers from Slidell, the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office,
U.S. Marshals Service, FBI, Plaquemines Parish Sheriff's Office and
Louisiana Probation and Parole took part in the operation.
