Thanks to a large grant, Louisiana State Troopers can now focus their attention on the biggest problem areas.

Drivers who frequent I-10 say they've noticed.

This is not by mistake or pure happenstance.

State police received a grant of just more than a million dollars from the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission.

It gives troopers extra incentive to go the extra mile.

"Troopers who are working overtime are able to strictly focus their enforcement efforts towards speeders dwi and and seat belt laws," says LSP Spokeman Stephen Hammons.

A main area of concern in 2010 is decreasing the number of car versus pedestrian accidents.

State police say 2009 was a tough year watching the number of fatals go from zero to six from the year before.

Troopers will change their focus areas throughout the year and their advice is to make sure you're following the law, don't speed and if you're in a vehicle make sure all the occupants in the vehicle are belted.
