Driver, passenger ejected in fatal, single-vehicle crash in Acadia

A single vehice crash on LA 97 near Barwick Road in Acadia Parish leaves one man dead and another man injured.

The two occupants of the vehicle both were transported to local hospitals after being ejected during the crash shortly after 9:30 p.m. Troopers from Louisiana State Troop I responded to the scene and discovered that 42 year-old Joseph Joseph II had been driving a 2009 Chevrolet truck south on LA 9, when for reasons still under investigation, the truck exited the roadway to the right. Troopers report that the vehicle then reentered the roadway to the left and then exited the roadway again, this time to the left.

According to investigators, the Chevrolet overturned on its roof in a ditch. Troopers indicate that both Joseph and his passenger, 34 year-old Eric Bergeaux of Basile, were not wearing seatbelts. Joseph died in the hospital from his injuries, troopers said. Bergeaux was flown to a local hospital with moderate injuries. Impairment is unknown and toxicology results are pending. The crash remains under investigation.
