Driver in Fatal Crash Charged with OWI

Lafayette police say an impaired driver was involved in Wednesday night's fatal crash at the corner of Kaliste Saloom Road and Rue Louis XIV. Authorities have charged 23-year-old Fred Dutton, Jr., with OWI and failure to obey a traffic signal. Investigators say the victim and Dutton collided while the victim, a 22-year-old Lafayette woman, was turning onto Kaliste Saloom Road. The victim's identity is being withheld pending notification of family. A passenger in her car was taken to a local hospital with moderate injuries.
