Drive by shooting in Opelousas leaves one injured

Opelousas Police responded to the scene of a drive-by shooting Tuesday night, just as an anti-violence rally was starting less than a mile away.

According to Opelousas Police Chief Perry Gallow, at least one shot was fired from a beige four-door Buick sedan as it passed a home in the 800 block of Park Avenue. The victim was struck once in the lower body. Gallow said the wound was not life threatening.

Gallow says they are seeking a person of interest in the incident.

Seven blocks to the east of the drive-by shooting,  the "Take Back The Night" march and vigil was getting underway at Opelousas Middle School. Marchers there walked down Market Street to the St. Landry Parish courthouse, where a rally was held to decry acts of violence in the community.
