NEW ORLEANS (AP) - With $6.7 million in repair completed on New Orleans' Judge Seeber Bridge, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development says it will now paint the 54-year-old bridge to the 9th Ward and St. Bernard Parish.
Repairs included replacing the deck and the beams that support the bridge.
The department said Thursday that the $10 million to $15 million needed to paint the bridge on Claiborne Avenue will come from a federal preventive maintenance program for bridges. It says bids will be taken this fall, with work expected to begin next spring.
The existing paint contains lead, so officials say the contractor will need a full containment system when removing it.
