Intermittent lane closures along U.S. 90 in the westbound direction will continue through Aug. 9 to allow crews to perform shoulder work.
The lane closures are located between the La. 92 (Smede Highway) and Ambassador Caffery Parkway and will take place between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., weather permitting.
Permit loads are restricted to 16 feet in width. Emergency vehicles will have access to the area.
The work being performed during this closure is related to the $4.9 million project to install J-turns on U.S. 90 between the Billeaud Overpass and Wall Road. The J-turn design will safely and efficiently manage traffic and eliminate left-turn and through movements from side roads and driveways into crossovers. All vehicles will be required to turn right and then U-turn at a median opening down the road.
Approximately 40,000 drivers a day travel on this portion of U.S. 90. Work on this four-mile project began in November 2012 and should be completed by fall 2013.
