BREAUX BRIDGE, La. - The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announced today that Sawmill Road Bridge over I-10, near the St. Martin/Lafayette Parish line, is now open to the traveling public as a one lane bi-directional bridge with an alternating traffic signal.
"The Sawmill Road Bridge serves as a vital route for commuters and local farmers in the area", said District Engineer Administrator Bill Oliver. "Currently, plans to repair the bridge are scheduled to begin this summer, but based on volume and demand this temporary solution will allow motorists to access the bridge sooner."
The bridge has been closed to traffic since October 31, 2012, when it was impacted by a vehicle traveling eastbound on I-10.
Motorists are encouraged to be patient and adhere to the traffic signal when using the bridge.
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) is committed to delivering transportation and public works systems that enhance the quality of life.
